Background for tube painting
KPT3 Gradient Designer & PSP. |
1. Create a new image - 400x400 - white. |

2. Selection tool -
Rectangle
Antialias - UNchecked
Feather - 0
Select the top 2/3 of your canvas. |
 |
3. Go to KPT 3 Gradient Designer -
Create a blue gradient with light blue on right side, dark blue on left
Direction - 270
Mode - linear blend
Blur if necessary by clicking on "Blur" and dragging slightly to the right
OK

4. Selections/Invert |

5. Gradient Designer -
Create a green gradient with dark green on right side, light green on left
Direction - 90
Mode - linear blend
Blur if necessary by clicking on "Blur" and dragging slightly to the right
OK |

6. Selections/Select None |
7. Create a new layer - call it Sun |

8. Selection tool -
Circle
Antialias - checked
Feather -10 |
 |
9. Flood fill selection with white |
 |
10. Gradient Designer - make yellow/orange gradient
orange left, light yellow right, mode=circular sunburst
|
11. Selections/Select None |
|
12. Create a new layer - call it "Sidewalk" |
|
13. Selection Tool -
Rectangle
Antialias - checked
Feather - 0
Draw selection from bottom of canvas to horizon - about 25 pixels wide |

14. Flood fill selection with white |
|
15. Activate deformation tool.
Hold the Control key down and click on a corner at the bottom of the selection and drag
to make it wider. Again holding the Control key down, drag a corner at the farthest end
to make it narrower. Release Control key and drag lower end down so that it's
touching the bottom edge of your canvas.
Apply the deformation. |

16. Selection Tool -
Rectangle
Antialias - UNchecked
Feather - 0
Draw selection around sidewalk without touching it. Click once on the sidewalk to activate
the selection. |

17. Gradient Designer -
Options/Reset to normal
Click on black end, drag slightly to right to lighten
Click on white end, drag slightly to left to darken
Blur slightly if necessary
Direction - 270 |
18. While sidewalk is still selected, apply small inner bevel |
19. Selections/Select None |

20. Create a new layer - name it "Cloud" |
|
21. Activate Lasso Tool -
Freehand
Antialias - checked
Feather - 10
Draw cloud shape |
|
22. Flood fill the cloud shape with white. |
 |
23. Gradient Designer -
Options/Reset to normal
Drag the left side of the bracket over to the center of the gradient
Click on the gradient near the left side of the now smaller bracket (on the lighter side)
and choose white. (marked "1" in the screen capture below) This will cause
a definite line in the center of the gradient. That's ok.
Slide the whole bracket over as far as it will go to the left and click on the darkest end, then
choose a light gray (marked "2" in the screen capture below)
Blur slightly if you still see a line in the center.
Direction - about 245.

24. Reduce opacity of cloud if desired.
Reposition cloud if desired. |

25. Now you're ready to tube paint! Place your tubes on individual layers so you
can move them around. |

26. When you're finished tubing, add a white symmetric border of 10
Use magic wand with tolerance of 0 to select border |
|
27. Gradient Designer
Make blue & green gradient
Repeat - 3
Mode - Linear blend
Direction - Move the direction around while you watch the preview. When you see something
you like, use that.
Try Loop - Triangle for a bit of different effect. |

28. Apply a bevel or buttonize effect to the frame.
Apply a drop shadow if desired. |

29. Selections/Select None |
|
30. Add white symmetric border of 20
Use magic wand to select border |
|
31. Gradient Designer -
Use the same gradient, but change the Repeats, Direction, or Loop to give it a slightly
different look |
|
32. Apply a bevel or buttonize effect to this outer frame. |
|
33. Save as .jpg and you're all done!
